it was hard, and hardest for my junior. But Moxie's in heaven now and he's happy.
Even though I only joined in after i called her to find out the status at about 5.30pm, those few hours in the hospital has left me real tired. I guess it's the emotions that everyone carried, especially the others that were there to say goodbye. They were really upset.
I said goodbye several times, coz they just weren't willing to let him go. I guess I was the only arse who smiled once in a while, coz i wanted Mox to know he can go in peace and we will be okie. There was so much sadness...and tears from them...
The only guy and me were the ones more ok one...we talked about it being the right thing to do and settled the logistics stuff..probably coz ...well, you kinda feel abit heavy with the emotional atmosphere.
Even with pets, there's never a good time to talk about settling the bill..so I just went outside and handled it while they spent more time with Mox. Cremation and all has been settled, this Thursday afternoon at 3pm. =)
Anyway, I'm not here to mope about it anymore...it's over and I'm glad my junior told me she felt his relief when he finally breathed his last.
=) i'm so happy for him...=)
Have fun moxie!

Moxie!
I managed to find some time to get the pics up! And here's my junior's dog -- Moxie! Cute hor?
He's a stray dog and i estimate his age to be abotu 10/ 11 years old. Yeah, that's 70 in human years! Like I said, he's hospitalised since saturday and i went to visit him a couple of times when I could with my Junior.
See the I.V. tube? that's coz he ain't eating and drinking as much as he should. He's a medium sized dog. =)
Pics of the other animals at the vet.
The kitty below was up for adoption!! really adorable and I spent some time playing with him coz he was just so bored!
The patient above Moxie was this indignant blacka nd white cat with what we call and elizabeth collar....it's to make sure that the animal cannot lick or bite themselves. Haha...why it's called an elizabeth collar?...just think of those pics of Queen Elizabeth in medieval times...you know, those high collars like cones?...WAHHAHAA
He look so xian hor..hahah...he just sat in his blue box and looked at me square in the eyes! I guess I was the only entertainment for him. since I was standing right in front of his cage. He's on an I.V. tube too.
This doggie above was adjacent to Moxie. he got into a car accident...see the abrasions? His legs got bad cuts too...He looked alright...abit moody and looked surprised when i wormed in a finger through the cage to wiggle his ear.
I took this pic to teach Red and Whisky the dangers of running outta the house! humph!
So here's my junior and Mox!
Actually, I kinda have to say with a heavy heart that I've already said goodbye to Moxie and ready for him to go anytime. though i'd like to try to see him one more time before he goes of course.
I'll try to summarise his condition. Basically, he's losing blood due to tick fever and stones in his bladder, which cuts his insides making him pee and poop blood almost non-stop. Just a bad combination of two conditions that have consequential effects. Can't do anythign about the stones till he's better..ie. arrest the tick fever.
The tick fever ahs made his blood count low too...and he's not clotting blood making the loss higher. Thus Mox needs blood transfusions. He got his first one on Saturday night got better on sunday..but his blood count dropped again on monday.

On monday I talked to the vet, and understood that Mox's bone marrow was not producing blood for himself. i.e. the body wasn't fighting to replenish the blood, thus the transfusion was just 'leaking' outta him. They had given Mox a shot that is used in humans to induce the bone marrow to produce the blood lah...but it would take 4 days to kick in.
On tuesday, Mox urgently needed a blood donor. A dog can't give blood twice and a match had to be found (on the side, for education, dogs can't take too many blood transfusions as it will reach rejection stage eventually)..thank god, my junior's cousin's dog Hunter could give...and coz of moxie's size, only big dog's could give.
The same day, i told my junior to think about letting moxie go if he doens't make it after this round of blood transfusions. It's a hard thing to say...but i told her, that after the time period for hte bone marrow thg to kick in and his body still can't fight for itself...it's best to just bring him home and let him die at home...=) At least he goes...in a familiar place...not in that cold hospital away from fond memories.
Today, Thurs, i got a call from my junior again. Mox needed another transfusion. As sad a prediction, i had guessed it would happen. Coz the pattern was that he got better one day after the transfusion and the next he's in dire straits (coz the blood runs out) ...she told me in fact that yesterday he vommited blood...haiz...
It was really hard to say...I felt horrid as I had to tell someone to consider letting their dog go. I brought it up again. To let Mox go home and rest. And if the vet advises that he can go home but his final hours will be in extreme pain....I suggested she just put him to sleep to end his suffering, since his body has already given up on fighting, by giving the transfusions, it's as good as keeping him alive by a machine.
She said she would never put him to sleep. Hmm..i understand, all her other pets have thankfully died of old age at home after mild suffering...But i told her that Moxie's case was diff lor...and she may need to consider. I guess it's hard lah...if you've never done it before.
Most of my dogs died of old age at home after a day/ two of suffering (thier bodies just gave up)...except Iako, which was a tough thing to decide on...but the moment I heard the vets options...i knew it was not an option...there would be no peace for her or real joy ever again. It was a day I never thought I had to say goodbye to her...
In the end, over the phone she decided she wanted another transfusion for him. I had not much to say, and I could sense she knew I was a dead end in a way...yes, I can help her find big dogs...btu no one I really knew had a big dog that i kenw well enough to risk.
The conversation ended quietly...I just didn't know what to say anymore. But I did tell her, please think about it coz i didnt want her to reach this same cross road and be in panic for a donor again.
It's really her choice...
Though I've said goodbye to Mox, i'll still go see him tomorrow if I can. If he's going to revive in this transfusion, at least he sees another familiar face. =)

Indignant patients...
It's been a long day...lately, dog days have been long... Yesterday when my junior called me to tell me the severe case of her dog, I actually stood in watson's for over an hour till they closed, just to listen/ advise her. Aiyah, I know it's a mobile phone lah, but i can't multitask when i need this much focus to handle the matter on hand.
Among other complications, the dog urgently needed a blood transfusion yesterday. Thank God they found a match. He was hovering on critical level and would have died in less than a day if action was not taken. alos, if the blood was rejected he was sure to die. So the night was critical...
Even though my leg hurt today, I had to make the trip to go see him and do the necessary to get all vet opinions. At present, even with the blood transfusion, he could have about a few more days only.
It had been sometime since I last visited him at his home. I felt so sorry, he's lost so many of his 'siblings' in the past 1-2 years, especially his companion and best friend, who is ironically a stray cat, that died a few months back.
He was initially sad when he just saw my junior..LOL...but he perked up so much when he saw me. He actually looked up and stared into my eyes. And when I patted him, he wagged his tail in appreciation even tho he was so weak. He was on a IV drip coz he wasn't drinking...
I pep talked him the whole time and reminded him to fight hard and we'll bring him home real soon...he wagged his tail...hahaha...i dont' think he understands completely lah..but i htink he knows I love him and want him to recover..=)
Soon he got up and even walked outta the cage and started showing some energy like bugging the dog next door..hahaha...he even made me panic by dancing ard his IV drip lor..=) ... I beeped his nose, told him he's a strong and faithful dog no matter what...before saying goodbye..=)
The dog next door looked miserable. I found out later that he was involved in a car accident..haiz...
I took a couple of pics of the other patients with my hp...several cats and dogs..I'll share soon k..then u'll be able to see what a dog hospital looks like and how sad they look...depressing environments! hehehe...they give me pissed and indignant looks as I took the photos..ahaha...coz they look their worst really...
After that was a long day of waits, requests for last minute appts and listening to bio/medical advise...
Talked to my junior in between too...not to worry and that things will work out. I told her that she did the best she can and some things is outta her control...so what she gotta do is believe that he's coming home and must not be afraid and want him to come home, no matter what his condition. And even...and even if he has to go...he'll go happy knowing he's loved. And she should be glad to let him go coz it's time...and he will no longer suffer...=)
He's still in hospital now..will be for another 3 days coz he needs more donors and transfusions..
I only got home at 10pm...finally can eat dinner! =) I showed off Red's xrays too..yeah..I got them printed.
Okies, gotta go sleep..really tired, wanted to earlier..but thot I wanted to write something about the sweet dog coz he fought so hard through the critical night,...this is for him. =)
Oh yeah, his name is Moxie I've known him for over 8 years. hee..Night night Moxie..

Dear Iako..

It's not every year that I do a post in rememberance of you. But I still remember you every other day...and so quickly it is already four years since we said goodbye.
You will always be sepcial coz you grew up with me, from the time I was in Primary 5 till I found my first job. We went through alot together, and I know there were many times I may have been mean when frustrated with something you did and just plain neglected you out of laziness or that I was just too pre-occupied with a 'new' thing in my life. The fickle-ness of growing up...hah...
Or even the turmoil times of my life...you were there for me to hug and I would find a way for us when no one wanted us...
You remained loyal and never stopped loving...and I will forever remember all the stories about you..the stories I have in my mind as I watched you grow up. And of course the story of your final months with us...

Red knows about you...she hears stories and we sometimes use your old dinner bowl for water..hee...
27th March would make it 4 years...=)
Reddo aint' doing too good now...so if you can help watch over her in heaven too it'd be great k? I mean, dog-to-dog may be more effective...hahaha...
Be good in heaven! Dun mess up the mansion...hahaha...
I chose this pic of you, coz i dun have that many in digital too (last time always used negatives hor...) AND...this was a nice memory...we were lying side by side on the bedroom floor during the days I bummed ard at home between school and work.
I watched Star Trek TNG on DVD and you SNORED loudly next to me!!! hehehe...you looked so peaceful and happy...like "All is well with the world, when my owner is with me..."...haha..

Yawn....
It's funny how you spend the first to 5 days trying not to think about work and mentally making the effort not to go anywhere near it. And now, when you need to get some work done...you can't even bring yourself to commit to the task ahead!
Hmm....engine restart is going to be so painful...=O
As some of you may know, my office has been closed again (as tradition...MUAHAHA>..the shiokest long holidays)...since 24 Dec and will be officially operational again on 5 Jan...that's a nice week and a half of R&R time. =)
It felt extremely weird to be not working and my hand itched that something was amiss come last friday after only 2 days of 'holiday'..saturday and sunday just felt ...hmmm...odd. hahaha...Just too used to working really...haiz...
So yes, I spent my time consciously making sure that I donto touch work. By reading and Zzzzing! heaven man...hahaha...
As ge put it, i think god planned it too that my internet would be so unstable. (i.e. it went down exactly on 23 Dec 2300h)..and hasnt been the same since. It has forced me to spend more time reading, zzzing...and entertaining my terrapins that i brought home from the office (so that they will be fed during this closure) =)
The only headache that this 'down time' of my internet has brought is (in order of pek-chek ness):
1) My mum kicking a fuss every 2 hours when she is home that she can't get connected and do her work and her fuss style is that it's my fault that it ain't working!?!? --- Grrr...i need to stranggle something...
2) One of my preferred enterainments of watching vids online and doing my insane surfs is stalled...sigh...what timing man...esp since i dont' have the pressure of having to work the next day.
3) Updating my blog with more rubbish...hahaha...
Ironically, even though i'm not connected to the world wide web, me books have kept me up as late as ever -- AGAIN!...haiz...I'm so a night owl...i'm just going to suffer during the switch back. Coz by monday, i was already sleeping at 6am and waking at 1pm...hehehe... (*ducks for cover* --> blame the book lah...)
I've been falling asleep with the story book on my face lor...=S
It feels absolutely great to be reading and not having to be time conscious that you have to wake up early to work, or have to stop at a certain time or page to hammer out that e-mail/ document *thumbs up*...=)
In response to point (1) above, I tore myself away from my book and zzz intervals today and called up Linksys...haiz...as I suspected after some trials, the guy concluded that 99% the problem lies with Singnet...so Qn: Have I called singnet???....no I haven't...but Geez...having done all this troubleshooting in my 3 to 4 year experience -- you call Singnet and they'll say that everything is fine and dandy on their end but since i'm not getting a clear signal means something is wrong on my side. -- AM I SURE MY MODEM IS working right?!
If yes, they'll just have to get a singnet guy to come down on site and test my phone line...which will be a minimum charge of $30 whether or not he solves my problem. DUH!
OK...these days, even before they can propose to me that option, I tell them not to even say it, coz the last time the guy came down, he didnt find any problem, slapped me with a $30 bill and my internet connection problem was NOT SOLVED. And that left me real...Pi**ed
*folds arms*
well, what to do, now that i've done part A and called linksys, I'll have to call singnet tomorrow lor...RAAARRR....and technology was supposed to make life smoother...*grumble*
I'm sorry, i've probably railed about this in one of my earlier blog posts...but i can't help it. Sigh...it is frustrating!
Anyways...back to the happier things in life..hahaha...30th Dec was Cloudy's birthday and my sis bought her a cake as usual. This year is a chocolate truffle one with a nemo picture on it! She is 9 this year. =) and like every other year, all the dogs get a slice of it! Red will have the biggest! =P
This year we attempted to take a photo of all 3 dogs and the cake! It was near impossible man...But I'm so proud of Red, even though the cake was located at her eye level, she didn't make a grab for it...but sniffed it ...and each time she did she' d get a loud "RED!!!!" from me...hahaha...and she'd put whatever heavenly thoughts she last had away...hee...
Okies, time to go..it's now 5.15am...I was happily reading on my bed when i spotted my internet light come on, i thought to pop in for a quick post! hee! =)

Tales from My Sashimi Dog!
Why Sashimi dog?? Follow the next few steps:-
Take your hand and make it into a fist.
Now imagine that is the size of a goldfish -- a dead one....
Now picture two of those size and buried in the soil...and they are a wee bit bloated...
Now imagine yourself digging them out and eating them WHOLE! *YYYEEECCCKKKSSSS*
*kaaappooooiii*
hahaha...well, that's my Sashimi dog for you. And that's exactly what she did. You see, our two big goldfishes died some time ago. So my sis buried them. It wasn't a deep grave though. My sis then walked off to wash the spade, taking less than 3 mins.
She returned to find an empty grave..and an innocent looking dog giving her the 'Who? ME????' look...hahaha...so funny! Absolutely disgusting though! Raw dead gold fish...GROSS!
Just a few days after, another gold fish died...so my sis scooped it up with the net and put it at the edge of the pond. She rounded the corner to get the spade...when she returned -- It was GONE! EeeeeeeewwwWWWW!!!
I reasoned with my sis it could be a bird...but i had to agree with her, the timing was a bit short for a bird to come and go.
Since then I've come to believe that she probably is comfortable with raw seafood because of her past. She was found abandoned at Choa Chu Kang Beach by the coast guard. So she proabably survived by eating the stuff washed up on shore. Poor gal...=)
Well that is good news for me too coz that shows she has a strong stomach and won't be weak should she accidentally eat bad food. hahaha...
Once i took her late at night for a beach walk. It was by moonlight and we walked along the sand..then i saw her pick up something and refuse to drop it even though i scolded and beat her. It look like a dead squid...EEEEEeeeeeee....Don't know what it is but it had a slimy texture...and had stringy things handing..( like tentacles)...
Anyway, fed up, i walked on, hoping she'd drop it later...later when i had some better street lighting, i realised it was not in her mouth anymore!! I don't know if she dropped it or she swallowed it...=S Disgusting! -- but i still love her! =)
Ok...sorry if you are reading this and having a meal! hahaha...
I'm off to bed...heehee...super tired!

Welcome! A Tribute...
Hello! Welcome to my Public Blog! =) Yesh...That means i have a private blog...so it will...err...remain private. HAHAHA...
I was chatting with some of my cellgrp (from here on known as 'cell'/ 'cg' --doesn't mean prison cell k...) and realised that quite a number of us have blogs..private ones especially! Hahaha...but i promised to come up with a public blog for the main purpose of chronicling my Kiwi trip...but who knows what may spring forth then on...=P
Presently my blog name is Doggie Walk, and address is pawprints...all linking it to my love for doggies and to the fact i'm penning down where the dog has walked. hahaha...OK ok ...some people are going, what about the 'toadie' persona?...well..think about it...'toadieprints' just sounds way too weird...hee...
So yes..i'm the doggie...and i go for walkie. =P
I dedicate this blog to Iako ( pronounced 'Ya - koh'), my first dog whom i still love because i still cry happy tears when i think about her. She was my furry pal in my growing years. From primay school kiddy school bag to ...secondary school celebrity idol chasing to...tiring and hard junior college years...to missing me when i'm away in NTU hostel for 5 years..being a loving companion in my prejob days...and watching me start a permanent job for the first time. =)
Here's her photo.
This is about 2 nights before she went to heaven. =) you may wonder why i didnt' choose a better shot of her at a better time...but u see her here...fast asleep? you know... for the few months she suffered she never whimpered or whined ...she lived with the lost of blood daily...and the smell of constant dettol. Struggled to continue her routine to go updstairs to my room to sleep on her own initiative every night even though her legs were stiff and weak...and many times in these attempts...she fell down the stairs in a dazed heap...=)
So here she is...my persevering Iako. The swell you see on her right part is the cancerous growth that grew and bled in her mouth. The tissue you see in the forefront is what i had to keep nearby to clean up the drool and blood occassionally as she slept.
This photo of her was when i carried her outside that night, it was a nice cool night with a moon...so that she could get some fresh air. She had reached a point when it was hard for her to walk and she had chosen to stay indoors.
I'm glad i spent time of her last two nights with her taking photos, singing to her, playing with her ears and listening to her laboured breathing. I kept telling her it's ok if she had to go..don't hold on if it's for me...if tomorrow i woke up and she would be gone.. i would be ok...she had been a great dog.. i will always remember her.
=) she' now sitting on my cupboard, next to my perfume and watches..haha...yup, i cremated her...so her remains are in a jar...ok, i gotta go make dinner... I'll end here...
